&lt;p&gt;Have you done your squats? If you haven’t done them yet this week then today is as good a day as any other to get them done. Please don’t neglect this highly important exercise regardless of the type of training you are currently involved in.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The barbell squat is one of the most complete exercises that can be performed. Not only will you be targeting the major muscles of your legs like quadriceps, hamstrings and glutes, but performing heavy squats are also a core stabilization movement so you will be hitting those abs in a major way.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;There is no reason why you should NOT be doing squats.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;li&gt;This will be your first time doing heavy squats? Welcome to the wonderful world of DOMS.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;p&gt;Here are some helpful tips for squats:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;em&gt;Always warm-up properly with a weight lower than your first working set and some mobility movements and exercises.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;em&gt;Wear shoes that don’t have much sole or heel.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;em&gt;Grip the barbell tight and pull your elbows back to create a shelf with your traps where the barbell should rest. Do not rest the bar on your spine.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;em&gt;Keep your chest and chin proud as you perform the exercise.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;em&gt;Keep the weight centered over your heels.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;em&gt;The proper way to lower the weight is to sit down into the movement.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;em&gt;Focus on hitting parallel or below when you lower into the squat.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/li&gt;

When you do cardio your body is burning energy in the form of calories. It gets these calories from three sources, glycogen found in your muscles, fat, and muscle. When you do cardio your body first turns to glycogen for fuel but it is quickly depleted, after glycogen is depleted  your body turns to fat and muscle for energy. This is a problem seeing that you don&amp;#8217;t want your body burning your hard earned muscle.  With high intensity interval training your body needs energy fast and will use its fat cells at a higher rate than it does with your muscles. In other words out of all the calories you burn during HIIT the largest percentage comes from fat. A good visualization is to compare a marathon runner to an olypmic sprinter. The marathon runner is lean but also has very little muscle mass while an athletic sprinter has incredibly low body fat levels and ripped muscles. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span&gt; &lt;/span&gt;Here is what my normal HIIT routine consists of. I use an elliptical, but you can definetly use any cardio machine you want or turn your outdoor jog into this as well.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt; 5 minute warm up&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;1 minute all out sprint, 1 minute rest repeated 5 times&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;5 minute cool down.  &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;There are tons of ways to do HIIT cardio this is just what i found works best for me. &lt;/p&gt;
